What Is CFD ?

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a computer-based methodology for the solution of the Governing equations of fluid flow.

This approach is not new, but it was considered an esoteric research tool till 1960. Advances in computer hardware, solution algorithms, and easy-to-use interactive software had made CFD a highly usable tool for engineers. With CFD, you gain increased knowledge of how your components and systems perform, so you can improve your design and optimization studies. CFD allows you to ask the "What if…?" questions and see the consequences before committing to a design or an alteration.

The CFD Process
There are essential three stages to every CFD simulations process:

• Generation of CAD model (geometry), cleaning of CAD model and meshing.

• Solving the discredited form of governing equations using computer.

• Visualization of data using the color plots, contour plots, and vector plots etc.
